    OOPS! Corrections & Updates

    • CC 9 begins the Carson River Watershed.   The Carson River Watershed is just under the size of the state of Connecticut in landmass at 3,966 square miles. It’s comprised of the two rivers- West Fork Carson River and East Fork Carson River, both of which begin in the Sierra Nevada of California at over 9,000’ elevation. Ultimately the river(s) travel 205 miles flowing through Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, Dayton, and Fallon, before emptying into the Carson Sink, an endorheic basin allowing no outflow to other bodies of water. During the Comstock mining boom, the watershed and water quality were critically impacted by mine tailings and deforested slopes.
